How Much Energy Are You Wasting Throughout the Day? 🤯🔋

That’s the question I asked during my keynote at the Drive Against Depression (DAD) Summer Drive Day this weekend. 🚗💨
It was the perfect mix of stunning roads, great company, and meaningful conversations about mental health, movement, and how we manage our energy day to day. 🌿☀️
What became clear very quickly is that most people don’t feel burnt out overnight…
They feel quietly drained, without really knowing why.
🔋 The Energy Audit: Where Is Your Battery Going?
During the session, I spoke about The Energy Audit.
Not in a corporate, tick-box sense…but as a very human question:
👉 What drains you?
👉 What recharges you?
So often, we wait until the end of the day to realise we’ve got nothing left in the tank. By then, it’s too late.
But what if we were more intentional throughout the day about keeping our battery topped up?
🧩 Small Moments That Plug Us Back In
Energy isn’t restored only through big holidays or long weekends.
It’s rebuilt through tiny moments, repeated consistently.
Some of the most powerful examples shared on the day were beautifully simple:
☀️ A lunchtime walk in the sunshine
😮💨 A 2-minute box breathing reset after a difficult customer interaction
👯♀️ A deep and meaningful chat with your work bestie
😂 That unexpected giggle at a ridiculous cat meme
🍏 A home-cooked, nutritious treat brought into a meeting by a thoughtful leader
None of these are revolutionary on their own.
Together, they can change how an entire day feels.
🚦 The Third Space: Transition Matters
I also spoke about The Third Space, a concept from Dr Adam Fraser, which focuses on the transition between roles…work to home, meeting to meeting, leader to parent.
If we want to bring our best selves into whatever comes next, we need to create a brief pause to:
🔹 Reflect
What just happened? What went well? What could I have done better? 🤔
🔹 Rest
Breathe, reset, physically and mentally downshift. 😌
🔹 Reset
Choose how you want to show up next. 🎯
Without this pause, stress simply carries over…interaction after interaction…until we feel flat, reactive, and exhausted.
🧠 The Real Energy Leak Most People Miss
What really struck me in the conversations afterwards was how many people said:
“I feel drained…but I don’t actually know why.”
It’s rarely the big things.
It’s the tiny, unintentional energy leaks that add up:
• Mindless scrolling between tasks
• Eating lunch rushed at your desk
• Constant mental switching with no pause
• Going straight from pressure to pressure without a reset
None of these feel dramatic.
Together, they quietly empty the battery.
🎯 Energy Is the Foundation of Performance and Connection
When we start to take control of these moments, something powerful happens.
We don’t just feel better…we:
• Perform better
• Connect better
• Show up with more patience and clarity
• Actually enjoy our days more
Because life isn’t about simply getting through the day.
It’s about having the energy to make the most of it. 🔋
